Sharon Wong is a Registered Physiotherapist in Hong Kong, Australia and U.K. She is currently working at the Matilda International Hospital, The Peak, Hong Kong. She graduated from the Hong Kong Polytechnic University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Physiotherapy and received her Professional Diploma in Acupuncture from the Hong Kong Baptist University. Sharon also studied at the University of Liverpool (UK), obtaining a Master’s Degree in Exercise & Nutrition Science. Sharon is a lecturer for the Fitness Specialist Certification (Personal Training) course at AASFP. She is a qualified Pilates instructor (Clinical Pilates) and Fit-Ball instructor. Her areas of interest include Sports Injuries, Exercise Rehabilitation, Clinical Pilates, Antenatal and Postnatal Fitness and Women’s Health.

Childbearing is a special time of life in women.  There are many physical and psychological changes in women during pregnancy.  Have you ever heard that pregnant women cannot lift arms above shoulder level? There are many traditional Chinese taboos about pregnancy. In this session you will discover whether these taboos are superstitious or scientific. With better understanding, you will feel more confident in prescribing safer exercises to pregnant and postnatal women.

Fitness professionals often come across different musculoskeletal problems in pregnant and postnatal women during exercise, such as pain in spine or pelvis and stress incontinence. These problems many stop the clients from doing exercise. As fitness professional, can you help? This session includes types of musculoskeletal problems, assessment skills, exercise selection and modifications.  The knowledge will help you to provide safe and effective exercise programme to your clients.
